The Aesthetics of Bamboo Art

Promoting bamboo as a renewable resource and facilitating livelihoods for bamboo artisans in challenged demography is the function of this campaign. Bhavyata Foundation eulogizes its indelible association with its long-standing comrades – the Bamboo Artisans from the tribal villages of Chandrapur, Melghat, Palghar and Jharkhand. The function of the campaign is to encourage and promote Bamboo as a renewable resource and assist in enhancing the means of livelihood for the artisans located in the remote areas of the country.
Bhavyata Foundation promoted skills development, education & health interventions by lifestyle adaptations, social entrepreneurship, the responsible harnessing of natural resources, improvising agro-economy and technological innovations for promoting cottage industry and enhancing rural infrastructure. Bhavyata Foundation collaborated with Sampoorna Bamboo Kendra. Sampoorna bamboo Kendra, Lawada (Melghat) is working for artisans living in inaccessible areas. Due to inadequate livelihood and limited means of living, they cannot even get the necessities of life. In the absence of proper opportunity, their talent couldn’t bring subsistence for them. Bhavyata Foundation helped them by selling their Rakhi in the urban areas of Mumbai and forwarding the sale proceeds to them.

Bamboo Artisans from the villages of Maharashtra and Jharkhand

Challenges:

  • Melghat and Palghar in Maharashtra have often been depicted as vulnerable to malnutrition and impacted region.
  • Bamboo artisans face many obstacles, including the shortage of raw materials, the absence of an institutionalized distribution system and the deluge of disposable household goods on the markets.
  • The bamboo sector is still a part of the informal and backward rural economy.

Our Intervention:

  • Resource War: As resources are strained under constant exploitation by humanity; bamboo comes as an excellent renewable resource with productive adaptability. The universality of this resource is promising for rural industry.
  • Design Intervention: With appropriate technological tools & design adaptations, numerous products can be made with appealing & competitive ways to replace non-eco-friendly products with bamboo sourced utilities.
  • Training Support: Technical, Logistical & Process Training support needs to be established for a viable commercial production model with robust supply chain management for remote tribal locations.

We managed to accomplish consistent livelihoods for tribal populations, particularly bamboo clusters, and have since received massive support from urban communities. The statistics for 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 are seen in the following table.
