Shiksha Abhiyan

A 2 day Workshop(12 hours) on Overview of Bhartiya Educational Model for Parents
Introducing Shiksha Abhiyan- revamping India’s education scenario.

When the British occupied the Indian administration, they had in their hands a population, ten times larger than their own. Even if they had the military advantage of their sophisticated weaponry, in order to truly dominate India, they needed to control the Indian mind. Around 1835, the evil genius Macaulay, devised a plan for this domination, named it the Educational reforms of India, and imposed on India, what can be called the greatest scheme of mass distraction, history has ever known. By making the Indian learner feel inferior about his own cultural education system, and proposing the so called superiority of the western system of instructions he successfully, created a population of Indians who were actually British in their thinking, and even had the British prejudice and ignorance against the Indian thought. We propose to provide an alternative education system, based on the Vedic ideals of Character, self-sustainability, and prosperity through simplicity and sharing. India’s educational tradition is the world’s most ancient tradition. In this tradition, the Gurukul system, the ashram system, the system of each village that run single-teacher schools respectively, changed the education system; but the seat of learning has always been based on Indian philosophy and the Indian way of life. For this reason, India’s educational tradition is the
best in the world.

The ancient education system can be best described by the following verse from Vishṇu Puraṇa.
(Vishṇu Puraṇa 1-19-41)
“That is action, which does not promote attachment; that is knowledge which liberates. All
action is a mere effort/hardship; all other knowledge is merely another skill/craftsmanship.”

In order to achieve the aforesaid objective of restoring the sanctity and purpose of human civilisation, We have embarked on this Project – Bharat Shiksha Abhiyan: to revive the ancient methods and systems of knowledge being purposeful of true objective of Vidya, and Its relevance in moulding today’s society with accountability and responsibility.

Session Themes under Shiksha Abhiyan -Garbha Shiksha Abhiyan: Prenatal Education -Shishu Shiksha Abhiyan: Infant Education by Aarambh. – Panch Kosha Shiksha Abhiyan:

What are the major challenges before educators? Those who believe that the education today struggles to offer holistic development of child, suggest that the focus is largely on the information and not on character building values. It aims at the results and not on the processes for learning. It equips mind for maximal exploitation from surroundings but seldom harness partnership. It makes man dependent rather than earning freedom for him and for others. It strengthens the analytical continuum and not the holistic vision. It takes man a step further towards becoming a machine and kills the organic part of him. It arms man with arguments and suspicion but fails to develop faith and trust. It promotes individualistic materialism rather than cherishing “Let us all grow”. Many attempts are made to meet these and other challenges. Emphasis on child centric learning, joyful and activity based learning, peer and group activities and enhancement of community participation are some of the successful interventions attempted in education systems of India and abroad.

(Pancha: Five, Kosh: Spheres of development / Parameters)
As mentioned earlier, Bhartiya Shiksha focused on the holistic development of an individual. The Panchakosh system was formulated keeping the soul as the centre. It focused on beginning with the development of the gross body and gradually progressing to the subtle factors. This was done on the basis of five parameters namely- Annamaykosh (Physical development), Pranamaykosh (Emotional development), Manomaykosh
(Mental development), Vidnyanamaykosh (Intellectual development) and Anandamaya Kosh (Spiritual development)
